Kia ora koutou,
Another cracker week of activities for our Junior surf community.
Although numbers have been down slightly at the Swim Squad this week due to AIMS and some ongoing seasonal illness, we have a lot to celebrate.
The big event was the Northern Pool Rescue Champs held last weekend.
As the Chair wrote in his comms earlier this week, Mairangi Bay was out in force for the first major competition of the season.
Firstly, a massive thanks to our amazing coach Salty, and to Trav and Travena for managing the team over the weekend. And of course, to all who helped with timekeeping or water safety, and those in red officiating the event, Thank you all.
But it was our super stars that did amazingly. All of our athletes walked away with at least one medal across the event, clear evidence of the hard work they have all put in over the past few months of training. Congrats team.
A couple of stella performances also saw Mila Mitchell and Giorgia Alarcon medal in all four individual events, with Harry Daniels and Flynn Josephson medaling in three of four events!
Our relay teams were present on the podium throughout the weekend, with our U12 team of Harry Daniels, Mila Mitchell, Allegra Child, and Penelope Sadler taking Gold in the Medley Relay.
The final event of the Pool Rescue season is now coming up.
The Nationals is scheduled to take place 2-4 Oct at the NAC. Entries are now open, but close later this week on Sat Night. It’ll be great to have another strong turn out from Mairangi Bay SLSC.

Otherwise, we only have three Sunday Pool Rescue sessions left.
We’re back to our normal timings and location (1030-1130 at the NAC), so we look forward to seeing you there.
Have a great week.
