A contingent of over 50 Mairangi Bay athletes descended on Mt Maunganui for the second biggest carnival of the year. With over 800 lifeguards from around the country taking part, competition was always going to be strong which provided our members a good glimpse of current fitness and speed levels.

16298825_10211247776326202_6020113963430038532_nWhilst the Club’s overall placing of 9th was weaker than usual standards due to a few competitors missing, there were some outstanding performances led by Samalulu Clifton who took a clean sweep of the U19 Womens ski events – first in Ski Race, Double Ski with Tiana Williamson, Ski Relay with Tiana Williamson and Ash Phipps and and Taplin Relay with Ash Phipps and Grace Platt.

16406621_10211247714964668_3305611611637374479_nOther first placing’s were picked up by Rachel Clarke in the Open Womens Ski Race, beating a strong field including two Olympians; Tayla Dalton in the U16 Womens beach flags; Tiana Williamson (U19 Double Skiand Vic Clarke, Anna Jackson, Penny Armstrong and Caroline Goddon in the Open Womens Surf Teams Race.

Second placing were picked up by Jake Hurley (Open Mens Beach Sprint) and Jacob Rennie (Open Mens 2km Beach Flags) whilst third placings were picked up by Tayla Dalton (U16 Womens Beach Sprint), Rachel Clarke, Kayla McKenzie and Libby Bell (Open Womens Ski Relay), Rachel Clarke and Sam Mayhew (Open Mixed Double Ski), Rachel Clarke and Kayla McKenzie (Open Womens Double Ski), Georgia Newman, Ashley Harding, Tayla Dalton and Alex Campbell (Open Womens Beach Relay), and Georgia Newman (Open Womens Beach Flags and Beach Sprint).
